The Big Knife:

reviving a theatre program, reviving a community

Theatre belongs
to the Community.

THE PROBLEM

15 months of the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK had shut down all family and airmen event programming.

For over a year, the base had not been able to deliver educational or entertainment programs, limiting their scope of engagement, customer data, and community culture. They needed some type of programming that infused a spirit of morale, education, and diversity back into the community.

THE SOLUTION

After coordinating market research in the community to evaluate needs and desires, I led the revitalization effort by developing the RAF Alconbury theatre program, producing and directing the play The Big Knife.

  • participation from military, dependents, civilians, and foreign nationals

  • 4 shows

  • 2 bases

  • 3 sold-out performances

As COVID-19 vaccines rolled out, The Big Knife brought hope to communities; hope for a future where living life was possible again.

The Big Knife, written by Clifford Odets, was produced by the 423rd Force Support Squadron and directed by Antony Vorobyov. Performances were held at RAF Alconbury and RAF Mildenhall.
